Tonight my DH and I went to Pass Christian, where we had been invited to hear
coneygoil's father and uncle sing, and have some catfish. There is a small retreat there where they hold a school for the Gospel Singers of America, and the catfish dinner was a benefit.
Nina had mentioned how great her family's catfish recipe was, and let me tell you she was not exaggerating. That was some of the best catfish I have ever eaten: all flakey and moist inside, and crunchy and flavorful on the outside, and not too spicy! Yummmm...
Then we listened to her father and uncle play and sing for a while, and her dad coaxed her up there to sing a couple of songs as well. She has a lovely voice, and I was so proud to hear how well she sang!
The DH enjoyed himself thoroughly, and as they are planning to make these fundraisers a weekly occurrence we will probably go back for more!
In other news, I got fifteen more rows knitted on the Pippin-scarf. If you are on PippinHealers, don't forget that you have to contribute to the Round Robin to get a chance at it when it's finished!!

Date: 2005-08-14 08:04 am (UTC)I tried to get on Pippinhealers to read that one tale that I was curious about, but discovered that you have to belong in order to read. So, do the Pippinhealers post their work anywhere else or is it only on that site? I would love to read some new Pippin fiction. That's another reason why I enjoyed the Crickhollow tale that you posted. I have been looking for something new lately.

Date: 2005-08-14 08:32 am (UTC)You ought to join PippinHealers! Most of the stories by members are posted elsewhere, and they just notify everyone with links, but we did a Round Robin last year, entirely on the list. It did finally ended up posted, at both SoA and ff.net, as "Of Tea and Tonic". So another Round Robin was started, but it kind of fizzled out. It's in the hopes of getting it finished that I offered the scarf: all those who contribute to the story when it's finished will have a chance for me to randomly pick their name and win the scarf. I'm sure if you joined, you would have a *great* contribution to the Round Robin #2.
The list has been very quiet lately, but every so often there will be a flurry of activity.
We'd love to have you!
"I have been looking for something new lately." I know that feeling. Some days I will find half a dozen new stories, and then the rest of the time--nothing. That's why I was so excited to find "Left Behind" and "A Secret Gate", and why I look forward so eagerly to Challenge weekends. Sometimes I wish I could be like my DH. He will read something and almost immediately forget most of it, so when he reads it again, it's like the first time all over again. *sigh* Wouldn't it be lovely to be able to read LotR again for the "first" time?
