Leonard Nimoy: some memorable moments
Feb. 27th, 2015 09:59 pmI loved him as Paris in Mission Impossible. This scene is fun to watch, as he is acting with Mark Lennard who played his father Sarek in ST.
He was in a lot of Westerns. Usually (though not always) he played Native Americans or Mexican Americans. I saw this episode of Gunsmoke not too long ago.
And here are some cameos:
The Simpsons...
The Big Bang theory...
Here he is, stumping the panel on What's My Line?
And who can forget his singing career. Here's his biggest hit! ;)
Finally, I came across this tonight, in which he speaks of his Yiddish background and his childhood:

Feb. 25th, 2015 10:47 pmI've already spent five of mine on the following:
Song prompt; the Sundering Sea
Dale and Erebor, toymakers for Bilbo's party
Rohan; Eomer and Merry write letters
The Shire; young Bilbo and his family
Tol Eressëa; who do the hobbits meet there?
More than one person can claim the same prompt! Just remember claiming costs you a farthing, too. You can find out all about it, and all the other rules at the comm!
Lent: Day 6
Feb. 23rd, 2015 01:57 pmGod, be my resting place
and my protection
In hours of trouble,
defeat and dejection.
May I never give way to
self-pity and sorrow,
May I always be sure of
a better tomorrow.
May I stand undaunted
come what may
Secure in the knowledge
I have only to pray,
And ask my Creator
and Father above
To keep me serene in His
Grace and His love.

Lent: Day 5, the First Sunday in Lent
Feb. 22nd, 2015 03:35 pmGod said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’”
- Exodus 3:14 (NIV)
Today's Devotional
In the Hebrew Bible, names represent hopes, dreams, and the characteristics of persons. For example, Jacob, after wrestling with an angel was given a new name, Israel, which means “the one who struggled with God.” Knowing the name of a person can give insight into the origin, nature, and the dreams of the person and his or her family.
That’s why Moses asked God this question: What is your name? Knowing God’s name could tell us many things about God!
God said, “I am who I am!” In some translations, God said, “I shall be who I shall be.” Both translations are possible because the Hebrew grammar allows for both (“to be” or “to become”). When God says “I am who I am,” God is actually refusing to be defined by one word. God is saying, “I am free. I am not defined. I am the Creator, not the created.” When God said, “I shall be who I shall be,” God was saying, “I am the one who causes things to be.” I am the Creator of history.
Though we may desire to define God more narrowly, knowing that God is “I am who I am” can give us more confidence in God. God is free, undefined, and is present in all aspects of our lives.

Thought for the Day:
How do my names for God limit my faith?
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for the gift of creation and the limitless gift of your presence with us. Amen.
Prayer Focus: To be open to the mystery of God

Feb. 18th, 2015 07:42 pmMy plate's too full, but it would be neat if someone took it on. This was the challenge that enabled me to complete "Eleventy-One, Book One".
Lent: Day 1, Ash Wednesday
Feb. 18th, 2015 07:33 pmSome of my friends many not be Christians, or may be of a denomination that does not observe Lent. I am United Methodist, and we observe most of the special traditional days.
So if you don't know what Ash Wednesday is, or Lent, here is a link:
What is Ash Wednesday?
Behind the cut are the words to a hymn new to me, although the tune was familiar (we sang it to the tune of "Amazing Grace". This was sung as the congregational prayer of confession. ( Read more... )
As I have tried to do for the last few years, I will try give up complaining, whining and ranting. And I will try to post something special each day that will be joyful, inspiring or uplifting.
Countdown meme: Day 10 and done!
Feb. 9th, 2015 09:54 amDay 8 - Three words you can’t go a day without
Day 9 - Two things you wish you could do
1 person I trust:
My husband; I trust him even more than I trust myself.
Countdown meme:
Feb. 8th, 2015 10:34 amDay 9 - Two things you wish you could do
Day 10 - One person you can trust
2 things I wish I could do, one unselfish, one selfish:
1. Be dictator of the world for one week, after which I could vanish into obscurity but none of the things I would do could be undone. I'd spend the week ending wars, correcting injustice, and making arrangements to end poverty and disease. I'd get the advice of people I respected, to make sure there were no unnecessary side-effect of my meddling. (If I'm going to fantasize here, let's make it good.)
2. Win enough money so I could rent a resort in New Zealand and bring in all my LJ friends for a huge moot! All expenses paid in full for everyone. And I'd have enough to bring in our favorite LotR/TH celebrities for personal appearances! And when it was over, I'd still have some left, enough to retire on! (Probably have to be Publisher's Clearing House. I always forget to buy lottery tickets, LOL!)
One more day to go!
