Well, everyone, dinner with the pastor and her husband was a roaring success! The DH and I did a lot of cleaning yesterday, and he did a lot of yardwork, so today all we had to do was a last minute dusting and running of the sweeper, and pick up a few groceries. We did the latter errand while we were out picking up my paycheck this morning.

Whee! Remember I said my sewing machine conked out on me when I was finishing up my art project for May's challenge? Well, we took it into the shop for repair; we were told it was $50 up front, and then extra if there was anything beyond the basic stuff.

I got it back today, and no extra charge! I'm so glad, because now I can finish up my Eagle pillow AND make my square for May's There and Back Again Block. And I can also finish up a denim vest and maybe make a pair of slacks I've been wanting to make.

And: Thursday evening our pastor and her hubby are coming to supper. The DH is going to grill steaks, so I will make some loaded baked potatoes and wrap them in aluminum foil. He can throw them on the grill along with some corn on the cob. I'll make a spinach and strawberry salad, I think, and some of my Roasted Pecan Vinaigrette dressing. And a Two-Crust Lemon Pie for dessert...

If you are here, mostly I use this Dreamwidth Journal for posting and linking my fanfics, as well as for occasional personal posts and photos, and as a back-up for my LiveJournal. You will find that most of my posts, though, concern the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, and tend to be very hobbit-centric.

You do not need to ask my permission to remix, podfic, translate, create art for or create secondary fanwork of any fanwork I have created. You should credit me and include a link back to my work. And please let me know because I'd love to see it.

I just got home from the first ever meeting of a local writer's group. As organizational meetings go, this one got quite a lot accomplished. We've set meeting times for regular meetings and critique meetings, and we decided we did not want to be a paying chapter of a writing organization. I am not too certain of just how we will do in the long run-- we are pretty diverse in one sense, and not very in others. And I am not too sure how well I will fit, as I am not interested in conventional publishing of fiction for myself (though perhaps my non-fic will profit).

We shall see what we shall see. Have any of you been part of writer's groups? What sorts of experiences (good and bad) did you have with them? Any advice for me on interacting with my fellow writers in person? (I am much more comfortable with online communities, LOL!)

I'm sorry, I forgot to say the chapter heading at the beginning. (Well, I did not forget the first couple of times, but I had several interruptions and kept having to start over, and I forgot the last time, and thought I'd better quite while I was ahead.)

I need a title for a person in a story I am working on, a crossover set in the late 1940s. I need a British character to have a minor title; it needs to be something sort of ancient and that would draw respect, but also not to be so high up that the person would get a lot of attention-- he'd be able to mostly maintain a low profile outside his home community, so I don't want him to be a Duke or anything like that.

So what kind of title would be suitable, and what would be the correct form of address for it? It does not actually need to be attached to a real place, as I will be inventing that.

You call the pharmacy to refill your Celebrex prescription, and you say KELE-brex instead of SELE-brex!

I have been gradually trying to work up to walking Sophie two miles. Up till today, the closest I got was 1.89 miles.

Today I went a different way than I'd been going, because I decided to walk by the pharmacy and pick up some RX refills. (We just walked up to the window.) Anyhow we took a totally different route coming home. 2.39 miles!!!

Oh golly! I came across this while YouTube surfing and it made me SO HOMESICK for Seleone!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xgvPceZk5Q

The building is the D'Iberville Public Library, and I still recognize so many of the folks. *sigh* And that's one of the first dances I learned years and years ago...

And then I found this:

The tall young man who is her partner? I used to dance with him when he was only eleven. He was an excellent dancer even then...
