Well, I gave up on Photobucket, and tried Flickr for my pics. I had completely forgotten that I had an account there from back when I was part of Fandom 'n' Stitches quilt project. (Hope I can finish that sometime.)

So, a few pics behind the cut. A couple of pet pics and some garden spam:

I have some other pics to post, probably tomorrow. But I had to post this one tonight.

Bella Christmas tree 1

Miss Belladonna Took would like to thank her humans for putting up a nice tree covered with lovely cat toys.

(We attached the tree to the beam in the ceiling above with cup hooks and bungee cords to avoid it being knocked over. During the day she just sits and stares and occasionally lightly bats at an ornament with her paw. But since we put it up a few days ago, we wake up to find several ornaments on the floor and the tree leaning at a precarious angle. But not, thank goodness, on the floor.)

Here is Miss Belladonna Took on one of her very favorite sitting places: our cable box!

Miss Belladonna dvr

This has some disadvantages. If she is just sitting, or she is laying on it facing us, no problem. But when she turns her back, it hangs over the front a little bit, preventing us from being able to change channels, pause, or adjust the volume. The DH has taken to squirting her with the "don't scratch the furniture water bottle" which makes her move a little bit. Also occasionally on her journey to her favorite spot, she will step on the buttons on the Blu-ray player and open the disc tray.

Once, in an effort to get her not to sit on the cable box, the DH rearranged the mantel, and placed the cable box between the DVR and the Blu-ray player. Shortly after that, we saw her on the mantel using her paw to try and get the cable box out of the middle! I can just imagine if she had knocked it out. It probably would have knocked all three pieces of equipment on the floor. I could just see us trying to explain that to the cable company!

So, we've pretty much learned to live with it. I don't know why she loves it so much, unless it's just because it's small and square and warm, LOL!

It's been a long time since I made a post. I am determined to start posting more often, and am going to try to make a post every day this month.

However here it is almost bedtime, and I had yet to post. So have a pic of Miss Belladonna Took on our front porch.

Bella 1

Also, finally finished and posted my [livejournal.com profile] lotr_community fic, Nothing So Mortifying, in which Frodo helps Merry through a difficult time. It's a day late, but at least it's done!

I hope to be a little more informative tomorrow!

I'm guessing that some of you might have thought I dropped off the edge of the world! But I'm back, and I survived a road trip!

Now, about the vacation: We've been home six days, and this is my first chance to make a post. I will put it behind a cut, for length, since I kept notes of everything, LOL. Read more... )

Today has been quite a day, and BOTH our furbabies have been trouble with a capital T!

I had to work unexpectedly today, as I was asked to fill in for a sick co-worker. I got home quite tired, and decided to take Sophie for her walkies right away, so that I could just collapse and rest. Since the weather was warm though windy, I left the front door open and the screen door latched, so Miss Bella could come out on the porch while we walked. I was just going to go up and down our block a couple of times, so I would never be out of sight of the house. This is something I've done several times and it's never been a problem.

Until I got home. I unlatched the screen door, and the wind blew the door right out of my hand, and Miss Bella made a dash for it. I grabbed for her and missed, and as I did the end of Sophie's leash slipped off my wrist and SHE made a dash for it too! Fortunately, she kind of bowled over Miss Bella, who then ran back into the porch--I grabbed the door and latched it. By that time Sophie was halfway up the block!

Guess what? I can still run! I chased that darn dog nearly a block and a half before I managed to get close enough to grab the leash. She thought it was funny--I'd call her, and she'd stop and maybe come back towards me and then when I'd get close to grabbing range she'd dart further away and then turn and LAUGH at me! (Don't tell me dogs don't laugh; I know what that look on the little smart-aleck's face was!)

So, got the dog home and got both animals in the house and the door closed. I collapsed in my chair and tried to get my breath back. My knees were killing me, and my heart was pounding so hard I could hear it.

The DH got home about an hour later, and after talking for a while, I went to fix supper. I was almost done when the DH came in the kitchen. "Where's the cat?" he asked.

"Well, last time I looked she was in my chair in the living room." Nope, not there.

There followed nearly an hour-and-a-half of searching every little hidey-hole in the house. Every so often we could hear her squeak, but it was faint and muffled and we could not figure out where it was coming from.

Finally the DH realized: it was coming from UNDERNEATH the house! He went outside, and sure enough he could hear her under there, and he managed to coax her out, wrap her in his shirt (to avoid getting shredded: she likes being held but HATES being carried.) and bring her in. We are still not quite sure how she got outside, though my best guess is that she snuck out when the DH took the trash out.

So we ended the evening with everyone safe at home; but after such a frantic day, my knees hurt like crazy and my nerves are shredded.

As for Sophie and Miss Bella, they are sitting around in wide-eyed innocence demanding that we pet them and cuddle them! Little self-satisfied brats!

But we'd have been devastated if anything happened to either of them!

Yesterday our son came over to do a couple of little chores for us. He brought with him his girlfriend's adorable little two-year-old daughter.

Our dog Sophie just loves our son, and she also likes the girlfriend's kids (a huge improvement over Sugar's attitude, poor thing--she was a menace to any kind of visitors and sincerely wanted to bite a chunk out of our son whenever she saw him; she always had to be shut up). But this was the first time it was just the baby. The DS left her in my charge while he went out to take care of some stuff in our garage.

Fortunately, little A. is used to dogs (my son has a huge mixed-breed male, and she adores Cado), and was only too happy to let Sophie lick her and play with her. They chased each other around the house with A. giggling "Puppy!" (Miss Bella, however, did not take well to being chased around as A. was calling "Kitty!", and took to the high ground, where she stared down at the little menace, LOL!)

Sophie loved all the attention, of course.

However, it's possible my son is allowing her to spend too much time with his dog, as she's learned some rather odd habits--like grabbing me for a hug and licking me! I was somewhat startled by this to say the least! LOL! My son thinks it is hugely funny. Anyway, she did give me a couple of people smoochies before they left.

Dairy for the Twelfth

July 12, 2013

We woke up this morning at our usual time of 6:30, me with some lingering thoughts of an odd dream that seems to be recurring recently. I dream I am in some place with a lot of stuff, like a junk store or a flea market, but there is so much of it everywhere it's like an endless maze. I usually seem to be searching for a particular item, but never finding it.

And I don't know if this was another dream, or simply a disturbing and unwanted plot bunny: what if Merry had lost his barrow-blade on the battlefield before he and Eowyn encountered the Witch-king?Read more... )

Let me preface this by saying that our bathroom door does not shut completely, due to a hook at the top that prevents it from closing well. Since it's just the two of us, that's not usually a problem. But the thing is, that even when it is closed as much as it can be, it's no deterrent to a pet with a determined nose and paw who wants to come in and keep whoever's in there company. Sometimes the dog, sometimes the cat, sometimes both of them...

Poor Polymer!Frodo, I knew him well. I returned from my knitting circle tonight to discover he was assassinated. It appears to have been a conspiracy. Miss Belladonna Took threw him from his high place upon my desk and then, to make certain he was dead, Miss Sophie ate most of his head, leaving only a few dark curls as evidence...

I thought I had a picture of him, but cannot find it. However, he is the default icon for [livejournal.com profile] lotr_crafts if you want to see what he once looked like.

Miss Bell discovers my Easter wreath... Miss Bell discovers my Easter wreath... I took this pic a couple of weeks ago and finally felt up to uploading and posting it. It's on our front screened in porch-- Miss Bell's favorite place in the world-- and I had put out the springtime wreath and the Easter wreath in anticipation of putting them up. A couple of hours later I found Miss Bell making herself at home in them. I think she looks very pretty curled up among the flowers, LOL!

Last night the DH and I decided to watch "Puss in Boots" on Netflix-- the Shrek spin-off with Antonio Banderas as Puss. Well, Miss Bell decided that was a good time to take a stroll across the top of the DVR and walk in front of the TV as we watched it. Then she decided to sit down and watch a while herself. I was very disappointed not to have my camera handy! I think she was fangirling Puss, LOL!

And Sophie has been really clingy today, and very jealous of attention. Poor Bell retreated to the sewing room tonight (we keep it kind of shut off with a child gate, just so Bell does have a place to get away from the the dog) because Sophie was chasing her and pouncing on her.

She's finally settled down some, but I expect she won't be happy when I get up to go take my shower.

OH! [livejournal.com profile] shirebound! Yesterday, the DH and I saw a cute little min-pin/chihuahua mix! She took more after the min-pin side of the family in markings and coloring, and she could CLIMB. We saw her climb nearly to the top of a 6' kennel enclosure, just like a cat!

I'm expired, so I can't upload some pics of the furbabies. Oh well. It has to wait till payday.

I'm very proud of them, though. They were home alone while I was at work, and the house was still intact and they didn't kill each other while I was gone. They've had several go-rounds since I got home. Bell is funny. She growls and hisses and spits at Sophie, and she smacks her-- smacks her hard! But mostly without using her stickersclaws. And she doesn't like it if Sophie gets distracted while chasing her. She'll go up and smack her again to get her attention.

So far Sophie still seems to think it's all just a game.

I think I temporarily wore Sophie out-- we had a very intense game of chase the bone for a while, and now she is sleeping.

BTW: can anyone reccommend a really TOUGH squeaky toy? She LOVES them, but she tears them up quickly. We tried one brand that was supposed to be quite durable--and the first one lasted nearly two weeks, but I bought her another just like it, and she chewed through to the squeaker in just two days. Of course, then it squeaks no more.
