Finally a chance to put down a few of my thoughts about the movie. I really hope to get a chance to see it again soon!

Christmas

Well, I'm still not feeling completely up to snuff, but felt better enough to have a decent Christmas.

I did not make a big Christmas dinner. The ham we bought a month ago is still tucked away in the big freezer on the porch. But we did have steak and waffles (not homemade this year, since our waffle iron broke a few months back and we never got to replace it. While not as good as homemade, they weren't bad, especially accompanied by some nice NY strip steaks).

Things were smaller on the present front. I got the DH a new flannel shirt, a new Dremel moto-tool, and a Hot Logic Mini plus a converter so he can plug it in to his car.

I got four items from my wish list: The complete and unabridged audio books of The Silmarillion, the soundtrack for The Hobbit:TBO5A, and two books--Splintered Light by Verlyn Flieger and Walking With Frodo by Sara Arthur. (He also ordered me two other books, but they won't be in for another month, due to being out of stock.)

Best of all, we FINALLY got to go see The Hobbit:TBO5A! I have to say I was very pleased with the end result! I'm not going to go into any spoilery review type thing tonight, but just say that it was a worthy ending to something I had a few reservations about going in! And now I can finally read all those posts I've been avoiding for a week!

But probably not until tomorrow. I am still feeling under the weather, and so will be turning in now.

Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas if you celebrate, and a fun day if you didn't!

I typed this up a few days before I got sick, and just realized I never got around to posting it. I suppose you could call it a combination of rant and advice. Now I've got cabin fever, since I haven't set toe out of the house except to go to the doctor's office since Saturday. Behind a cut, for length...Read more... )

In fact, I went to the doctor today. It's flu (had the swab; I hate things stuck up my nose) and she said there's congestion in my lower lungs bordering on pneumonia. Eep.

I am off work and grounded until the 23rd, which will interfere dreadfully with last minute Christmas stuff, and of course it's just as well we had not bought our tickets for The Hobbit:BO5A, because I could not have gone.

I'm hacking, coughing and wheezing and sore. I've spent three days in my recliner with the cat mainlining BtVS (up to the end of Season 6. What an intense season!) I can start Season 7 tomorrow, which I've never seen before. (And I'd also missed several episodes of 6, too, but now I've seen them.)

I am very much hoping I will feel like puttering around the house a little, or at least have enough focus to do a little needlework or something. I also need to get more done on my Yule exchange fic. I've got quite a lot plotted out in my head--just need to type it out and add it to what I already have.)

Anyhow, I've been a little sporadic in my comments, so I guess you will know why now.

Sick!

I have felt like crap all day: stuffy head, sneezes, achy, exhausted and unable to focus. At least I haven't run a temp yet. I stayed home from church. Spent most of the day in my recliner with a blanket and the cat on my lap. I'm off tomorrow. Hope I feel better by Tues.

Good night, all.

Yesterday!

December 12, 2014

4:45 AM--Woke up with a cramp in my left foot. OWW! Couldn't really get back to sleep, so plotted some fic in my head.

6AM--Got up, fed cat, packed the DH's lunch and made breakfast (leftover pork chops, eggs and cranberry bread). Saw the DH off to work, got dressed and watched "Good Morning, America", and read the latest chapter of a friend's WIP fanfic.

10AM--Clocked in at work. I was with two co-workers.Read more... )

Who's hanging out here today?

I opened a notification this morning and it took me to a friend's comment page, but before I could even scroll down, and without me clicking anything, it flipped to her main page. Then I tried to look at my friends page and it flipped to my main page. It won't let me look at either comments or friends pages. Bwuh?

I had such a strange dream last night. It woke me up feeling very unpleasant, yet with the notion at first that the dream might make a fic; of course that's rarely true, since most dreams make no sense once you start thinking about them. And it wasn't even LotR related. I can scarcely remember much of it now, but I do think I may have been watching too many Buffy episodes lately, as well as too much news. The main things I recall are that Spike was in it, and George Stephanopoulos, something about missing paychecks and Bush was still president...

Yesterday the letter carrier was very good to me. Last week I ordered THIS T-shirt in the long-sleeved version, in dark blue. It was in the mailbox yesterday, along with another surprise.

About a month ago I took part in a survey put on by OSU, mostly stuff about politics and the environment. I'd completely forgotten about it, but they'd promised me a $10 Visa gift card. That showed up yesterday as well.

Today we went to Stillwater for some necessary errands, and I wore my new tee, and we went out to breakfast at IHOP, and I spent my Visa card at JoAnns (I got a book on Zentangle and a ball of variegated cotton yarn for dishcloths.) I had a 40% off coupon, so even though I went just a few dollars over the ten, both items combined were still $5 less than the book by itself would have been!

Then we did a little wandering around some second-hand and antique stores to find a new end table and lamp for the living room. We found a great table--a really nice Ethan Allen piece with a drawer and a shelf, for only $40, and they had hankies! I picked up two nice ones, one a floral print border, the other one with white on white embroidery, for only $3 apiece! No luck on a lamp yet, though.

Does anyone else on my flist use hankies instead of Kleenex or other tissue? I really prefer them--they are soft and environmentally friendly! Plus, they make me feel hobbity. I have several. A few bandanas and some nice old fashioned ladies' handkerchiefs. The two I got today give me an even half-dozen.

You Are a Child of the 1960s

The world has changed a lot since the innocent days of your childhood, and you're still getting used to it.
You remain idealistic, upbeat, and happy. Things may not be as simple as they once were, but you try not to make them too complicated.

You are easily pleased, and you don't need many material possessions to be content. You love good company and a home cooked meal.
You value real connections and true friendships. You believe that the most meaningful interactions still happen face-to-face.

Is now streaming:

This gave me the shivers; that was Pippin singing, not just Billy. In my minds I could just see Peregrine Took standing on the shore singing this tribute.

I got this warning through [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants. Apparently a website has cropped up that is trawling through LJ, looking for anything tagged fanfic, and then reposting it WITHOUT PERMISSION.

Here is a link: http://www.donotlink.com/framed?561309

The link diverts you from the original. It takes you to a separate page that will not show up on search engines, in order to defeat the thief's purpose of attracting search engines. (The site is full of advertising.) But as you can see, a lot of people have been complaining.

I don't know if any of my friends may have been victimized, but there's a Complaint Page, which you can go to and make him take your stuff down.

I don't have time right now to see if he's lifted any of my stories, but I will be checking as soon as I can.

(And I'm using my fanfic tag so if he steals this entry he won't be getting any real fanfic, LOL!)
