1. I got a challenge up for October at the lotr_community! I was so upset that I did not get one up for September! I hope people will like this one! Very fitting for October.

2. Finally got to make my pickled cherry tomatoes.



These are all the ripe ones we had left, but we still have quite a lot of cherry tomatoes still on the vine!

3. We finished getting our Halloween decorations up! There are a few things we will wait until Halloween eve to put out, like our noisy ones and our animated ones, and we have some ideas for some new homemade ones.

4. I made something new for supper, a recipe I found in "Cooking Light" at the library: Black-eyed Pea Cakes with Corn Salsa and Sautéed Tomato and Onion KaleSpinach (Because I didn't have any kale and I like spinach better.) I accompanied the Pea Cakes, Corn Salsa and the Sautéed Spinach with a couple of small baked sweet potatoes.
It was a delicious meatless meal! And I think it would be perfect for New Year's Day!

BTW, I've been planning to post some pics of our sweet potato harvest.

5. This happy is really from yesterday, but it still makes me happy today (I couldn't resist watching it again), so for those of you who have yet to see it, Michelle Obama's speech in New Hampshire:



I love this woman so much--she is the best First Lady of my lifetime, and I go back to Eisenhower. Her classiness, strength and high standards are amazing.

Hi everyone!

I've had a fantastic "birthday week"!

First of all, I'd like to thank all my online friends for the good wishes and greetings! Kaylee Arafinwiel wrote me an adorable story; she sent it to me in a private email, but as soon as she archives it, I'll post a link. I had lovely e-cards from lindahoyland, pearltook1, rhapsody11, and mumstheword. And I can't forget all the LJ birthday greetings from ellynn_ithilwen,shirebound febobe, mews1945, claudia603, cairistiona7, lilybaggins,harrowcatliz, ramblin_rosie, lily_the_hobbit, addie71, pandemonium_213, gamgeefest and i_o_r_h_a_e_l. I hope I have found everyone after scrolling back through the last 6 days; if I missed you please, thank you anyhow.

Today's harvest: eggplant, more cukes, and a few more green beans.



Yesterday four small beets and some more green beans. I forgot to take their picture.

I made eggplant lasagna for supper: substituting eggplant for the noodles, I peeled and sliced them about 1/4" thick, brushed a little olive oil on both sides and baked them about ten minutes. Then I layered the eggplant with my tomato sauce and the cheese (had to sub cottage cheese for riccotta) mixture, and topped off with grated mozarella. I also roasted the beets in aluminum foil for about 30 minutes, and then grated them onto our salads, topped with raspberry vinaigrette dressing.

I still have two eggplants left, and have accumulated about a half-mess of beans. And I am fairly certain I'll be making pickles next week with all those cukes!

The DH and I went to the matinee today to see Brave and I have to say it was adorable. Merida is easily the best of the "modern" crop of Disney princesses!

I thought they'd *never* get ripe! But now we have...

Tomatoes! The two large ones are the *Brandywine* variety, LOL! (How could I resist that?) The smaller ones are Jubilee and also a cherry variety. The labeled markers got lost when my seedlings blew over in the greenhouse, so I can't be positive which are which.

	Broccoli Straight from the back yard to the kitchen
	Broccoli Just enough for two.

I steamed it until it was just soft enough. The DH said it was the best broccoli he had ever eaten. *grin* There were also some nice green onions for the salad!
